One of the best essay services we found on the Internet is www.essayedge.com, a comprehensive site that gives tips for writing all types of essays, for college and for graduate school. The section titled Admission Essay 101 is particularly helpful, offering a how-to checklist.

The Web site also features an editing component staffed by more than 100 Harvard-educated editors. Send in your essay, and within 48 hours you will receive a critique and edited version of your composition. Costs range from $24.95 for up to 250 words to $239.95 for 3,000-4,000 words.

It states on the Web site: "Contrary to popular belief, admissions officers are not reading each file with a red pen in hand eager to place the next candidate into the rejection pile because of a few grammatical errors or a poorly chosen topic. Rather, they look forward to reading interesting, colorful essays written by real individuals."
